Some places stay with you long after you leave them. For designer Vera, that place is Northumberland — where she spent her university years, living and studying at one of those quietly beautiful English institutions that seem to belong to another century. It was her home, not just a destination. And the landscape around her — the vast open moorland, the ruins of medieval castles appearing out of nowhere, the villages that seemed to exist outside of time — became part of the way she saw everything.

There is something genuinely mystical about that part of England — a quality that is difficult to name but impossible to ignore. History sits in the air there. You feel it walking along Hadrian's Wall, or standing at the edge of a cliff looking out over the North Sea. Vera was captivated by it during those years, and the memory never quite left her. Shadow North is where that memory finally found its form — ten original prints, each one drawn by hand, each one rooted in the places and feelings that Northumberland left behind.

Every Beyond by Vera print design starts exactly this way: Vera, a brush, and a blank canvas. Each of the ten prints in Shadow North was drawn from scratch — weeks of research, sketching, and refinement before a single yard of fabric is ever considered.

The result is something that could only come from looking closely and drawing by hand. The prints are shaped by botanical illustrations, historic wallpapers, and the small details found in the landscape — the way light catches a foxglove or the movement of holly in the wind.

The IDEA BEHIND THE Print: Harvest Navy

Harvest Navy was the first print Vera and her team created for the collection. Set against a deep navy ground, inspired by the colour of an English sky just after dusk, the botanical artwork draws from the hedgerows and walled gardens of Northern England. Foliage, berry clusters and flowering stems are layered in warm ochre, dusty pink and faded cream, creating a print that feels rich yet understated.

It is the kind of print that looks different in different lights. In daylight, the navy reads almost as a near-black, the botanical forms floating above it with something close to luminosity. In the evening, the whole thing deepens, becomes more mysterious. Vera drew it thinking about the way an English garden looks in October — the moment just before everything goes to ground.

How to wear it

Harvest Navy is made for Fall layering — pair the Iris dress with a soft suede coat, fedora and loafers for cooler days, then lose the layers when the sun comes out. A patterned neck scarf adds a little personality, while the rich navy print does all the work.
